How to Use The CYA Calculator
There are only a couple of items that you need to use the CYA calculator:
- The pool’s volume in gallons. If you do not know it, use the pool volume calculator for a close estimate.
- Your current CYA level
- Your desired CYA level
The calculator will let you know how much CYA you need based on your pool’s size.
It’s important to note that CYA can only be decreased by partially draining and refilling water. With this in mind, add CYA in increments and test along the way.

Your Pool’s Volume is Important!
Knowing how much water your pool holds is an important aspect for pool chemistry. A 20,000-gallon pool will need significantly more CYA than a 5,000-gallon above-ground pool.
The most effective way to determine the pool’s volume is by looking at the build schematics or asking the builder for that information if they still have it.
