Halloween Pool Decorations and Party Ideas
As summer ends and the cool fall weather starts to creep in, most pool owners in four-season climates are thinking about closing their pools.
However, for those who don’t close their pool or utilize their heaters to prolong the swim, season, Halloween is a perfect excuse to have one last poolside party!
Don’t limit your decorating to inside or around the house. Plenty of Halloween pool decorations can have party guests spooked!
To get in the spooky spirit, here is a list of fun, cheap, and pool-safe party ideas for a Halloween pool party. Pool-themed costumes are highly encouraged!
Dye Your Pool Red
There won’t be anything more eye-catching to your guests than a pool of “blood.”
Red dye is a perfect way to enhance your pool. Party Pool’s color additives are non-caustic and non-toxic so there is no need to worry about damaging pool equipment, swimsuits, walls, and tiles, or disrupting your water balance.
Make sure to follow the directions very closely for the best results!
Simply add the specific measurements based on your pool volume and have a sparkling red color for about 3 to 5 days.
NOTE: A small set of users have reported staining to their filter cartridges and equipment. It is important to follow all directions.
As a precaution, ensure your free chlorine (FC) levels are checked and balanced more frequently during those few days.
Invite your Skeleton Friends
Make sure to increase your RSVP list for a few skeletons that want to take a swim! Skeletons are a must-have Halloween decoration and there are plenty of different poses and positions for some cool party selfies.
Perhaps they want to lounge on the pool steps or in a deck chair. Or maybe they prefer relaxing in a pool float or raft. Either way, some skeleton pals will surely bring the scary vibes!
Floating Coffins Doubling as a Cooler
Want your skeletons to have a more traditional Halloween floatie? Then put them in a coffin of course! Or, use the coffin as a floating beverage and food cooler that can easily float to your swimming guests.
Add ice and your beverages of choice to keep the party going!
Color Changing LED Lights and Fog Machine
When done right, this party idea can be the coolest from a visual perspective. A lot of pool owners have already installed pool lights that can change color. But, let’s enhance the lighting by turning our pool into a creepy, misty lagoon!
A fog machine paired with dark green lighting can add an eerie effect and make you feel like you are in a scene from The Mist by Stephen King.
Dry ice is not recommended to perform a fogging effect. Since it is essentially carbon dioxide in a solid state (and CO2 is a functional acid), dry ice can drastically lower pH and total alkalinity (TA) levels. Not to mention, it is a lot safer to use a fog machine than to handle dry ice.
Floating Candles and Lanterns
If you don’t have pool lights readily available, candles can help keep the haunting look alive. Add lanterns around the coping and floating candles in the pool to complete the Halloween look and feel.
Candles can be as easy or sophisticated as you like. Chinese paper lanterns with LED candles are a perfect substitute for actual wax candles.
Pumpkins and Jack-O-Lanterns
Nothing says “Halloween” more than pumpkins, so adding them to your party decorations list is a must.
Believe it or not, pumpkins do float in water. It can be as simple as buying and tossing a couple in the pool! However, plenty of plastic options and floats enhance the effect. Buying some Jack-O-Lantern buckets and glowsticks is a fun and safe way to get a cool Halloween vibe.
Happy Halloween!
Sometimes, the pool isn’t always for swimming. Showing it off in different ways to friends can be a lot of fun.
Take inspiration from these ideas for your own Halloween pool party. Take it further in the scary department and add floating zombies, witches, or even “dead bodies”.
Just be sure to remember to be safe when adding anything to the pool that isn’t part of the normal routine. As always, test before and after!
